Hey Karina (@karinaresskincare), thanks for taking part! You're from London which is my city too! Can you tell us a bit more about yourself?
I’m actually from Almaty, Kazakhstan but I moved to London 3 years ago to study at UCL. I’ve officially finished my BA degree just last week, so the frantic job hunting begins now! Wish me luck!
Your IG bio says you're trying to figure out the confusing world of skincare. I thought that was interesting because you're so right. There's so much going on with new KBeauty products being released all the time and so many ingredients. How did you first discover KBeauty?
There are so many options, brands, and products on the market, it’s insane! I remember I first stumbled upon @sokoglam and @theklog and just hooked on their profiles. This was my jumping point in learning about KBeauty and the products I want to try - the first product on my wishlist was Acwell Licorice pH Balancing Cleansing Toner, but somehow, I still haven’t gotten my hands on it!
What was it that got you obsessed with Kbeauty? (e.g. price, quality, packaging)
Being a student, price is almost always a deal breaker for me, so that was definitely an important aspect that got me interested. A lot of KBeauty products that I won are quite affordable but effective nonetheless. I love that I can get great results without digging into my savings account!
Do you notice a difference between KBeauty and Western skincare?
Definitely! There are certain skincare products where I would always choose KBeauty over Western and vice versa. To be honest, I love cherry picking and combining the best of both worlds. For example, when it comes to double-cleansing and sunscreens, KBeauty is a clear winner for me, but, at the same time, I own lots of Western serums that really helped my skin!
What's your everyday morning skincare routine?
My AM routine has one rule: it has to be quick and enjoyable ! I always cleanse with @cosrx Low pH Good Morning Cleanser, then follow up with @avene Thermal Water and The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5. Depending on my mood and my skin’s needs, I might use Vitamin C. And of course, sunscreen, rain or shine! I’ve gone through @cosrx Aloe Vera Soothing Sunscreen and just finished MISSHA All-Around Safe Block Essence Sun.
What's your everyday makeup routine like?
I don’t really wear make up because I’m pretty lazy and don’t really have a need for it. When I do want some extra coverage though, I use a bronzer to even out my tone a bit and then dab highlighter all over. All makeup gurus are probably gasping in shock right now! If anyone has quick and easy make up tips, I’m all ears!
What's your night time skincare routine?
Double cleansing with Heimish all Clean Balm and Cosrx Low pH Good Morning Cleanser (don’t be fooled by its name, it works in the PM too!) Depending on the day, I incorporate acids such as Drunk Elephant Framboos or Paula’s Choice Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant. On a lazy evening, I just hydrate my skin and use The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% and Zinc 1% . There is one product, however, that I use every single night - Dr Jart Ceramidin Cream. This is my absolute favourite moisturiser ever! Hands down the best product I own and the one I will always repurchase.
If you were to recommend 5 Kbeauty products for a friend who's never tried KBeauty before, what 5 products would they be?
@Cosrx Low pH Good Morning cleaner (I literally recommend it to everyone and so far, everyone loves it!)
@drjart Ceramidin Cream
@drjart Ceramidin Liquid
@klairs Supple Preparation Toner (I haven’t had a full size but I’ve recently tried samples of it and it was love at first application! Now I just need to find where to get this toner in the UK!!)
@MISSHA All-Around Safe Block Essence Sun.
Is there any Kbeauty product (skincare or makeup) that is currently on your wish list?
As I’ve already said, I absolutely NEED Klairs Supple Preparation Toner in my life.
What is your most memorable and loved KBeauty product? Any story behind it that you'd like to share?
I guess that would have to be @cosrx Low pH Good Morning Cleanser. It was one of the first products I’ve started using when I first got into skincare and it has never let me down. Such a basic (in a good way!) cleanser that does its job, doesn’t strip my skin of moisture, and just makes me feel happy with its cheerful “Good Morning!” every day :) Oh, and it’s very affordable as well!
This or that
Skincare or makeup
Pizza or hotdogs
Pizza of course! So many more options
Netflix or Cinema
Netflix… I’m a lazy and broke student :)
Early bird or night owl
Neither! I’m a middayer, if that’s even a thing. I hate waking up early but I don’t stay up late either.
Summer or winter
Tricky one. I’m not a fan of snow and wearing 5 layers of clothes in Winter but got to admit it’s much easier to deal with the cold than with the heat. There is only that much you can do when it’s hot. In Winter, just layer up and you’re good to go! Sooo… can Autumn be an option?
Fill the gaps
Favourite Korean dish
Favourite Kpop band
Haven’t gotten onto Kpop obsession yet, but maybe one day I will!
Fav spot in the world
The answer I would want to give: anywhere with my loved ones!
The real answer: my bed.
Ugh, so many, I can’t list them all. Some of my favourite artists though are Andreson Paak, J Cole, Florence and The Machine, Tyler the Crteator
Dead Poets Society.
