KBeauty Stars of Instagram: Interview with Kelly Driscoll (@kelldris)

Hey Kelly! Thanks for taking part in this interview series about Kbeauty bloggers on Instagram!  I love your IG page (@kelldris) because not only is the feed really pretty but you go into detail about your skincare routines. Can you tell us a bit more about yourself?

Many thanks to LuckyFace for having me! I’m a 30-year-old freelance marketing consultant and full-time skincare addict! I started to get into skincare, and Kbeauty in particular, in my early twenties, in my last years of college. In many ways, my journey through skincare has been closely tied to the ups and downs of entering the adult world and finding my way.

You're from Milwaukee, USA and now you're a KBeauty addict! :) How did you discover the world of KBeauty?

I definitely came to the world of Kbeauty through YouTube and specifically makeup gurus like Michelle Phan and Bubzbeauty. I think it was around 2011 that skincare started to get my attention.  I started first with My Beauty Diary sheet masks (t-beauty), Hyaluronic Acid and Arbutin! It wasn’t until about 2013-2014 that I got seriously into Korean skincare and the whole 10-step routine.

What was it that got you obsessed with Kbeauty?

It was definitely the price that got me hooked! I was a recent college graduate in 2013 and didn’t have a ton of money to spend on skincare and beauty products, so the affordability definitely drew me in. I would say the uniqueness was definitely a draw, too -- no one I knew was into these products, and it felt very special to be discovering them.

I love how you also have a dedicated skincare blog too. What inspired you to start blogging about KBeauty?

I was definitely inspired by great bloggers in the Asian Skincare community that came before me, specifically Fifty Shades of Snail and Snow White and The Asian Pear. At the beginning of my skincare journey, their blogs helped me decipher so much about the world of skincare and helped me discover some amazing “holy grail” products I still use today. I remember being so excited to read their blog posts first thing in the morning before going to work, kind of like my version of The New York Times!

I knew that I wanted to share and give back to the community that helped me so much. That’s really the motivating factor behind my Instagram, blog and YouTube channel -- to help educate and inspire others on their skincare journey.

What's your everyday morning skincare routine? What are your go-to products?

Morning products are often focused on hydrating layers that absorb quickly! I don’t like to spend a long time getting ready, but I still want to pamper my skin as much as I can. Toners are a must, and I will usually perform some version of the 7-skin method to get my hydration replenished. Snail products, like Benton Snail Bee Essence or Cosrx Snail 96 Essence, are a must for my dehydrated skin to keep it happy and soothed.

I usually reserve my Vitamin C use for morning time and am a big fan of Klairs Freshly Juiced Vitamin C drop. SPF is a morning must and I like to pick sunscreens with SPF 50 and a PA of ++++.

What's your everyday makeup routine like? What are your go-to products?

I keep my makeup routine pretty minimal most days, especially because I work from home. One of my favorite Kbeauty makeup brands is Etude House; I love their drawing brow pencil. Innisfree No Sebum Powder and Peri Pera Oh My Cushion Blusher are daily makeup staples for me.

What's your night time skincare routine? What are your go-to products?

Night time is the right time… for a 10-step routine! I mostly use the same products morning and night but reserve my night routine for special treatments and extras. I’m pretty into wash-off masks currently, and I’m in love with both I’m From Honey and Ginseng masks respectively. All time favorite sheet masks are Leaders Amino Moisture, Benton Snail Bee and Tosowoong Propolis masks.

I’m also a big fan of sleeping packs and often have Klairs Freshly Juiced Vitamin E Mask and Etude House Bubble Green Tea Mask on rotation.

If you were to recommend 5 Kbeauty products for a friend who's never tried KBeauty before, what 5 products would they be?

  1. Cosrx or Benton Snail Essences
  2. Beauty of Joseon Dynasty Cream
  3. Cosrx Low pH Good Morning Cleanser
  4. The Face Shop Rice Water Bright Light Cleansing Oil
  5. Klairs Freshly Juiced Vitamin C Drop

Is there any Kbeauty product (skincare or makeup) that is currently on your wish list?

Right now I’m lusting over Missha Glow foundation and VDL primer. I also would love to try more Purito products as well as Iunik.
