KBeauty Stars of Instagram: Interview with Sophie (@mapletreeblog)

Hey Sophie, I came across your lovely Instagram page when I was following British Kbeauty bloggers. Can you tell us a bit more about yourself?

Yes of course! I grew up in Eastbourne, which is a seaside town on the south
coast, but have been living in London now for 8 years. I love reading books, and
read about 2-3 a week, some days I just curl up on my sofa reading with a mug of
hot chocolate.

We met at your Asian Beauty meetups in London. I loved how you organised a charity raffle for such a worthy cause (Women for Women). What inspired you to organise the AB events?

I’m a big fan of organising things, back in school I used to organise parties with my friends and fundraisers at school. Not many of my colleagues at work knew about AB, so I wanted to meet with more fans that I could share my passion with in person! It eventually evolved into a charity event as well when generous sponsors offered to donate goods to the meet ups.

How did you discover the Korean beauty products?

I started out with reading about subscription boxes, I loved the concept of getting a surprise gift each month. I eventually heard about Meme Box (though they no
longer shipped to England at that point) and wanted to learn more about the skincare products and where I could get them.

What was it that got you obsessed with Kbeauty?

I’ve suffered from acne from my teens and wanted to do something about it for a
while but the offering in the UK stores were not great at the time. I loved the fact
that AB was cheaper, but also offered more choice with fun packaging and

What's your everyday morning skincare routine? What are your go-to products?

My morning starts at 4:30am, so I keep my morning routine short. I always shower in the morning and wear a wash off mask to add hydration while saving time! My go to is the Make Prem In Shower Face Pack. I then apply a toner and some moisturiser before putting on my make up.

What's your everyday makeup routine like? What are your go-to products?

Good question! I’m currently trying this new technique of putting powder on before
foundation. It does make my foundation last longer but does look more dry, so I’ve
also been spraying myself with a mist as well. Current favourite mist is the Beaudiani one which has a lovely forest scent to it. My powder is the Guerlain
meteorites, which are gorgeous to look at, and the foundation is the Chanel Les
Beiges which I find works well with my skin. Two Faced Peach Palette for the
bronzer, highlighter and blusher and for my lips and eyes I vary between the rather large collection I have. My favourite eyeliner is the Le Creer Beaute eyeliner from Japan.

If you were to recommend 5 Kbeauty products for a friend who's never tried KBeauty before, what 5 products would they be?

DHC Cleansing Oil – This is Japanese, and is my absolute favourite. It takes off all my make up, and feels good on my skin as well Thank You Farmer Miracle Age Toner – This is a pump bottle, which is always a bonus, and is thicker than most toners. It soothes my skin and feels good to use.
Kicho 8 Berries Sheep Oil Cream – This has been one of my favourite creams. It
feels luxurious, sinks into my skin and makes my skin plump and hydrated.
Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask – I’ve not really found an equivalent in the UK, and it’s
perfect for winter
Cosrx Master Pimple Patches – Now this would only be if they suffer from acne
like me, but they’re great for helping to heal spots quickly and flattening them.

I see from Instagram that you've tried a lot of different beauty products and brands. Is there any Kbeauty product (skincare or makeup) that is currently on your wish list?

I really want to try more from Ato Classic, Sulwhasoo and the Lotus which is a new brand I heard about at the meet up!
